Cas Holmes
I teach regularly in the UK, mainland Europe and the USA. Design,
print, collage, composition and surface techniques using found
materials is the main focus with inspiration from land, natural
forms, colour, texture in nature and mark making with stitch.
Visiting quilt, embroidery, and contemporary textile groups as well
as residential weekend courses, summer schools and major conferences
and exhibitions keeps my diary very full.
I encourage experimentation with materials and find out what can be
done with them before exploring creative ideas and developing
finished pieces. I trained in Fine Art, exploring drawing and mixed
media. This training has become the foundation for the way I teach.
I am interested in assisting students to develop original ways of
working and developing their own narratives. I am an experienced
tutor and speaker and also teach drawing and painting at adult
education. I offer a range of workshops over various periods of time.
1 day workshops
It is unlikely you will leave with anything finished on a one day
course. I am more interested in developing your ideas and teaching
you processes for you to develop at a later date. You will leave
with notes and your own samples on what you have done and hopefully
plenty of ideas.
2 - 5 day workshops
Longer workshops enable the development of more ideas and give more
time to resolve processes and start a journey for more considered
work or a finished piece.
