The
inspiration for my figures and dolls
comes from a wide variety of interests ............ music,
words, poems, my surroundings, nature,
watching people ......... there are
so many factors that inspire my
work.
I
endeavour to record as many as possible
by journaling - daily if possible
- but at least once a week.
Music
inspirations can cover a broad musical
spectrum - Irish singers such
as Mary Coughlan, with her strong
female vocals and lyrics have been
responsible for parts of my work.
I also love opera with its constant
heady moods and emotions. Drumming
music will often evoke ideas for
me too! I disregard nothing - open
my mind - listen and create!
Words,
poems, ditties, quotes are all tools
I use for creating. I have found
an immense wealth of source material
in Haiku - short well-rounded words
needing little or no explanation.
Quotes too, will provide me with
the base for a figure - words are
powerful tools and even more powerful
if directed into a piece of figurative
art.
Textures and images fascinate me
as well, and therefore I incorporate
old papers and books into my work
- reupholstered into my figures,
and encapsulated in time.
There
is little that does not intrigue
me - open your eyes - inspiration
is all around.
